The Costume Institute Gala
The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City houses a collection of more than thirty-five thousand costumes and accessories. Each May the Gala celebrates the opening of Spring exhibition.
This year’s honoring theme was Alexander McQueen. The exhibition, named Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, saluted designer’s 1992 Central Saint Martins postgraduate debut to his final runway collection, which was presented after his death. The exhibition featured approximately 100 ensembles and 70 accessories created by McQueen, which were gathered from the Alexander McQueen Archive in London, the Givenchy Archive in Paris, and private collections.
I love the magnificent McQueen creations worn by Sarah Jessica Parker, Gisele Bündchen, Naomi Watts, Salma Hayek and more. Diane Kruger in Jason Wu, Ashley Olsen in vintage Dior, Mia Wasikowska in Thakoon Madonna in Stella McCartney, Natalia Vodianova in Valentino, Liv Tyler in Givenchy Couture and Christina Ricci in Zac Posen are my other personal favourites.
Stella McCartney designs were also cherished by the attendees. I’m not a big fan of her but the celebrities seem to think otherwise. There were almost as many McCartney designs at the McQueen ones as far as I see.
Gywneth Paltrow and Renée Zellweger were very boring at the Gala in my opinion. Gywneth Paltrow seems to be wearing the same type of dresses to every event; she had a very similar color CK gown at the Oscars this year and I think she should do something with her hair too; get a hair cut, new color or something.
And I don’t understand why people with fair skin tones like Renée Zellweger insist on wearing such neutral colors. And why is she giving that pretentious pose on every red carpet event? She looks very annoying in my opinion. Although that Carolina Herrera she is wearing looks lovely, even that doesn’t do it for her.
Kirsten Dunst was also off I think, even though she was wearing Chanel. She looked like she was more on her way to the beach with her just-off-the-shower-hair than to the Met Gala.
Here are some looks from the Gala:
